J.J. Yeley qualified 31st for Saturday night’s Dodge Challenger 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
Yeley, driver of the No. 96 DLP® HDTV Toyota Camry for Hall of Fame Racing, toured the 1.366-mile oval in 27.965 seconds at 175.848 mph.
Greg Biffle captured his fifth career pole, his first at Darlington and his first of the season with a track record time of 27.405 seconds at 179.442 mph. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., will start alongside Biffle on the outside of row one, as he timed in at 27.418 seconds at 179.357 mph. Jimmie Johnson (27.441 seconds at 179.206 mph) was third, while Tony Stewart (27.461 seconds at 179.076 mph) and Kurt Busch (27.478 seconds at 178.965 mph) rounded out the top-five.
Forty-five drivers attempted to qualify for the Dodge Challenger 500. Those not making the cut in the 43-car field were Johnny Sauter and Jeff Green.
As far as manufacturers went, Ford took the top spot via the pole run made by Biffle. Chevrolet was next best at the hands of Earnhardt, Jr., while Toyota was the third-fastest make thanks to Stewart. Carrying the flag for Dodge was Kurt Busch.
The Dodge Challenger 500 gets underway at 7:20 p.m. EDT on Saturday with live, high-definition coverage provided by FOX beginning with its pre-race show at 7 p.m. The race will also be broadcast on SIRIUS Satellite Radio Channel 128.
