Event: LifeLock 400 Qualifying (Round 15 of 36)
Series: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Location: Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn (2-mile oval)
Pole Winner: None, qualifying canceled due to rain (field set via current car owner point standings)
J.J. Yeley: 40th
Rain canceled today’s qualifying session for the LifeLock 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. As a result, the 43-car field for Sunday’s 200-lap race was set by car owner points per the NASCAR rulebook.
J.J. Yeley, driver of the No. 96 DLP® HDTV Toyota Camry for Hall of Fame Racing, will start 40th. The top-35 drivers in points were awarded the top 35 spots, followed by past champions Terry Labonte and Bill Elliott, who occupied the 36th and 37th spots, respectively. The 36th through 41st cars in owner points were slotted in behind Elliott, and since Yeley is 38th, he was awarded the 40th spot.
Kyle Busch, whose No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing car is first in owner points, will start on the pole. Jeff Burton will start alongside Busch at the front of row one, while Dale Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards and Denny Hamlin comprise the top-five. Jimmie Johnson, Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne and Kevin Harvick complete the top-10.
Forty-five drivers were slated to qualify for the LifeLock 400. Those not making the cut in the 43-car field were Jason Leffler and Tony Raines.
The LifeLock 400 gets underway at 2 p.m. EDT on Sunday, June 16 with live, high-definition coverage provided by TNT beginning with its pre-race show at 12:30 p.m. The race will also be broadcast on SIRIUS Satellite Radio Channel 128.
