J.J. Yeley qualified 43rd for Sunday’s Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa.
Yeley, driver of the No. 96 DLP® HDTV Toyota Camry for Hall of Fame Racing, toured the 2.5-mile triangle in 55.123 seconds at 163.271 mph.
Jimmie Johnson captured his 16th career pole, his third of the season and his second at Pocono with a time of 53.503 seconds at 168.215 mph. Mark Martin will start alongside Johnson on the outside of row one, as he timed in at 53.712 seconds at 167.560 mph. David Gilliland (53.832 seconds at 167.187 mph) was third, while Jeff Gordon (53.858 seconds at 167.106 mph) and Matt Kenseth (53.930 seconds at 166.883 mph) rounded out the top-five.
Forty-four drivers attempted to qualify for the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500. Not making the cut in the 43-car field was Chad Chaffin.
As far as manufacturers went, Chevrolet swept the front row via the runs made by Johnson and Martin. Ford was next best at the hands of Gilliland. Dodge was the next-fastest make thanks to sixth-quick Ryan Newman (53.962 seconds at 166.784), and carrying the flag for Toyota was eighth-quick Brian Vickers (54.047 seconds at 166.522 mph).
The Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 gets underway at 2 p.m. EDT on Sunday with live, high-definition coverage provided by ESPN beginning with its pre-race show at 1 p.m. The race will also be broadcast live on SIRIUS Satellite Radio Channel 128.
JJ will be signing autographs at the merchandise trailer at 10:10 am until 10:40 am on Sunday before the race!
