JJ's "alphabet soup" races started in the "D" on Saturday. JJ was driving the #67 Keith Kunz Motorsports Midget, JJ finished 2nd in the D main which transfered him to the "C" main. JJ started 8th row outside and finished 5th to transfer to the "B" main.
In the B main JJ started 10th row inside, JJ flipped in the first lap. He went off track to access the damage while the race restarted only to go yellow before one lap was complete, so JJ came back in the race (the crowd went crazy). JJ was unable to get to the (6th position) transfer spot to go to the A main before the checkered flag dropped. It was a surprise for all the JJ fans who come to see him race at the Chili Bowl every year, who didn't think they would get to see him on the track because of his injuries in August.
It was a great effort by JJ who was cleared by his doctor Friday morning to race. With no practice or seat time to prepare for this race, it was the first time since his August 22nd accident in a midget race in Kansas City that JJ had been in a race car.
Dustin Morgan, the driver of JJ's #1u TCR midget was in the alphabet soup along with JJ, Dustin made it to the C main, but finished 18th and unable to the transfer position (6th) to the B main.
